Exams? Just Get Started!

Yes, it’s that time of year again. You are in the final stretch and the finish line is just ahead. Sometimes it’s hard to get motivated to study. So, what might save the day and eliminate that last minute push to prepare and study, even in the final days before your first exam?

Breaking through exam block is not easy – take it from someone who’s been there and done that. It can be done, but it may take some extra steps in your thought processes.  Maybe you’ve already read the 100+ posts or articles about getting unstuck and how to “just do it”.  Those pieces should tell you that there is no magic bullet.  What works for one student won’t work for another.  Tailor any information you read to your own preferences, current study habits, and style.  Sometimes a review of pertinent information will give you the push you need to carry on in the face of a block.

Here are a few aids from our library’s collection to review to help you determine your preferences, if you haven’t already done so:

The student’s guide to exam success / Eileen Tracy

The West Exam Pro series / various authors

The Understanding series / various authors

Questions and Answers series / various authors

Finally, one tried and true method is to place yourself into the mix of the decision making process about what to do next by setting goals.  Ask yourself, “What do I want, and if I don’t put my nose to the grindstone now, what’s at stake?”  Often just asking yourself questions like that makes the path ahead clear enough to motivate you to get back to your notes, briefs, outlines, or information on your computer and it helps you start writing or typing away again.

Good luck on your studying from the entire Law Library Staff!
