Florida Library Association Conference 2013

FLA logoReference Librarian Diana Botluk and Cataloger Catherine Steffens represented Barry Law Library at the Florida Library Association Annual Conference last week. The conference was held April 30-May 3 at the Hilton Orlando. Besides networking with other librarians from around the state, Catherine and Diana attended several continuing education sessions, including The 21st Century Library: Innovation is Key, Using Instructional Design to Create Substantive Learning Opportunities, RDA Cataloging on a Shoestring, and The Creativity Dynamic for Today’s Library.

On Friday morning, Diana also represented Barry by presenting at the FLA Cyber Zone, a special hands-on session of the conference where attendees could experience technical applications that might be useful in their libraries.  Diana presented a cloud-based collage program called Vuvox.   Vuvox Collage Handout

The highlight of the last day was a presentation by Bill Barnes, one of the creators of the comic strip Unshelved.  Barnes created sketches of several librarians’ stories from their libraries, such as fish in the book return drop.  The winning story was turned into one of the Unshelved daily comic strips:
